Your privacy, held dear

The people you love are personal. Hold Dear is built so that they stay that way.

Last updated: 17 May 2026

The short version. Hold Dear collects nothing about you. Everything you add lives on your device and, only if you choose, in your own private iCloud. It is never sent to us, never sold, and never used to track you. There are no ads and no third-party analytics.

Who this covers

This policy describes how the Hold Dear iPhone app ("Hold Dear", "the app", "we") handles your information. It is published by Riddell Apps.

What Hold Dear stores

To do its job — gently helping you stay close to the people who matter — Hold Dear keeps the things you create in it:

  • The people you add: their names, and anything you choose to record, such as a nickname, photo, phone number, birthday, or how often you'd like to stay in touch.
  • Your notes about each person, and the moments you log together.
  • Your app settings, such as your preferred reminder time.

You decide what goes in. Hold Dear never adds information about people on its own.

Where your information lives

Everything is stored locally on your iPhone. If you turn on the "Keep this on your other devices" setting, your information also syncs — encrypted — through your own private iCloud account, using Apple's iCloud infrastructure, so it appears on the other Apple devices you own.

Hold Dear has no servers of its own and no account to sign up for. Your information is never transmitted to Riddell Apps. When iCloud sync is used, your data is handled under Apple's privacy policy.

Contacts

When you first set up Hold Dear, you may choose to let it look at your device's Contacts so it can suggest a few people to add. This is entirely optional — you can decline and add everyone by hand instead.

If you allow access, contact details are used only to show you suggestions and to fill in the people you select. Contacts you don't choose are never stored, and your Contacts are never transmitted off your device.

Notifications

Hold Dear's gentle daily nudge and birthday reminders are scheduled locally on your device. Delivering them does not involve us, and reveals nothing about you to anyone.

What Hold Dear does not do

  • No tracking — your activity is never followed across apps or websites.
  • No third-party analytics or advertising software is included.
  • No accounts, no passwords, no email collection.
  • Your information is never sold, rented, or shared.

The app uses your device's standard settings storage to remember one preference — whether iCloud sync is on — and nothing more.

Information you can take with you

Your information is always yours. In Settings, "Export everything you've written" gives you a copy of all your people, notes, and moments in a file you can keep. "Clear everything" permanently removes all of it from the app. Removing the app from your device deletes its local data; data you synced can be removed from your iCloud storage in iOS Settings.

Children

Hold Dear is a general-audience app and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above. Meaningful changes will be noted alongside the app where appropriate.
