Common questions

A few things people ask

When you first open the app, Hold Dear can suggest people from your contacts — or you can add anyone by hand. You can add more at any time from the Dearest tab. Twenty to fifty people is a lovely place to start.
The first version of Hold Dear is free to use, with no ads and no account required.
Deeply. The people you add, your notes, and your moments live on your device — and, if you choose, in your own private iCloud. Nothing is ever sent to Hold Dear's servers. We don't track you, and there are no third-party analytics.
In Settings, the "Keep this on your other devices" toggle turns on iCloud sync. Your data then travels — encrypted — through your private iCloud account to the other devices you own. A change settles in next time you open the app.
Never. There are no streaks to keep alive, no red badges, and no counting the people you haven't reached. You'll get one gentle nudge a day at a time you choose — and that's all.
Yes. In Settings, "Export everything you've written" gives you a file with all your people, notes, and moments — yours to keep.
On a person's page, choose "Set this aside." They move quietly out of your dearest — nothing they've shared is lost, and you can always bring them back.
Hold Dear is an iPhone app, built for recent versions of iOS. An iPad and a wider home for it may follow — but the iPhone is where it begins.
